Taking baby in the sun and pool?
We are going on vacation to Hilton Head in August and my son will be 4 months old. Is that to early to take a baby in the sun and to the pool? When did everyone take their children to the pool/beach? I bought one of those rashguards, the sun hats and we have the sundome. We wont have him in the sun for long periods of time but we have him in the sun for short periods of time.

- Sounds like you've got it covered. oops no pun intended. Just remember that sunblock does not work on babies under 6 months.
- Oh the baby should be fine. But dont let the baby too long in the sun. Use sun block and put a hat on it. Hope it helps :]
- Of course 'ideally' your baby will never be in the sun. You take precations though, like you have already outlined with the sun cream, the sun hat, the dome, etc. Buy a nice long-sleeved wetshirt for him to wear to cover his arms. Glasses if you can get him to wear them. I was the only one who was sun conscious with my daughter when she was a baby, which meant by the time she was 6mths she had a darker tan than me (we were on a tropical island at the time). I felt so guilty! I started all sorts of fights with my partner and his parents about proper sun protection, but some people cant understand the need to wear hats, suncream, etc. I can only hope permanent damage wasnt done. The pool is something else though. Normally the chemicals in the pool are quite harsh on the skin, but necessary to kill the bacteria. This is ok for adults, but small children no. Perhaps there is a kiddy pool? If not, I would stay away from the pool. Bring a little inflatable one you can put fresh water into, and that way he could slash around a bit. Hope you have fun on your vacation! P.S. I bought special baby sunblock, and it worked great (when applied). I'm not sure why someone said it doesnt for babies under 6mths. They recommend NO sun for babies under a certain age, and limited suncream on babies due to the chemicals it contains, but I would definitely put some on your baby when you go on vacation.
- make sure u put sunblock on them with out the swimsuit on, bc the rays can go thru, same with the hat. Make sure the sunblock is tear free, bc i just got some normal kind in my 6 month of daughters eyes a few days ago and she screamed and screamed.....The banana boat tear free spf 50 baby sun screen works great, i have that now. I prob wouldnt put a baby in a pool tho at that young, too many germs, chemicals...its just too dangerous, they'd prob hate it anyways.
- WHAT A GOOD QUESTION! my son is only three months old and I brought him out to the lake last saturday but only for about a half an hour... soaked him in sunscreen (did you know sunscreen is not waterproof! No matter what the label says!! its not fda approved! I heard that on the news that night following my water adventure) He seemed to enjoy the water as long as he was with him mommy! The rays arent as harsh in minnesota though.. but i'd still stick to limiting sun time exposure.. but a little fun in the sun wont hurt him! p.s. people did it all the time way back when and kids were fine! I think we can all be a tad bit over protective!
